THE CHILTERNS & HOME COUNTIES REGIONAL GROUP
Contact: Stan Rose
The chilterns & home counties regional group, serving the Home Counties to the North and West of London, invites members residing in the counties of Herts, Middlesex, Bucks, Beds and Berks. to attend their regular genealogical meetings.
These are held in the lovely Osorio Hall of the Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue, in Oaklands Gate, Northwood, on five weekday evenings and two Sunday afternoons during the year. All areas of Jewish Family Research are covered including a series of 30 minute Tutorials on Jewish Internet Research from 7.30 pm preceding the main evening programme.
Facilities include a laptop-linked projector and screen, radio microphone, and broadband internet connection. Tea, coffee and biscuits are freely available during a short break at each meeting. There is ample car parking at the side of the Synagogue, and opposite; also close by in Green Lane. The premises are well served by public transport, with buses passing along Green Lane and the Metropolitan Line station of Northwood, is just a few hundred metres away.
The Society has a long list of expert and qualified speakers from which we may draw. The events vary from genealogical workshops, to give attendees the opportunity to discuss their own researches, to PowerPoint Presentations with expert speakers from both within and outside the Society. Recent speakers have included David Annal, from the National Archives and our own Doreen Berger and George Anticoni. A good selection of information sheets and brochures are displayed, together with the Society's publications on sale.
A group Newsletter keeps our members informed of events.
The group has its own Lending Library following the acquisition of over 60 books. All genealogically-related, the books may be borrowed by arrangement with the Group Librarian. They may also be ‘sponsored’ for a small sum, for which a suitably inscribed special label is displayed inside the book.
There is no charge for attendance at these meetings for JGSGB members. Non-members pay a small fee which is refundable upon joining the Society following the meeting.
