Tips on downloading files (when using Microsoft Windows)

Downloading files involves the steps shown below.  If in doubt, experiment with the test files first.
They are small and will download quickly.

ONLINE

  1. Decide which file from the list  you want to download
  2. Check that  the file format matches the word processing or spreadsheet programs on your PC (see advice on file formats below)
  3. Download the file onto your PC by clicking on the file name in the list  (this could take several minutes, depending on file size and line speed)
OFFLINE (i.e. after logging off to save telephone costs)
  1. Find where the file that was downloaded has been stored on your PC (use "tools find" in windows explorer) .  Type in the name of the file that you are looking for (eg jcd95doc.exe)
  2. Double-click on the name of the file within windows explorer  to automatically unzip it  (this converts it from its original compressed format into files which can be used on your PC) the resulting  files will be stored in a folder called jgsgb on your PC
