• Description: The Disused Georgian Cemetery in Kings Lynn is the only focal presence that there were and are Jewish people in the town. Who were they, why did they come and why did they leave?
About Marsha Parker
Marsha has led a varied life. Her husband says she is the renaissance women, Art student, medical laboratory technician, teacher, probation officer and forensic psychologist. Marsha left school with the minimum of 5 O levels and subsequently obtained two MA degrees although she was never an undergraduate. She has lived in Rural Norfolk near Kings Lynn since 1978 when she moved from the Jewish Hub of North West London where she was born and bred. With two small children, a husband and the third babe on the way they longed for self-sufficiency and the good life. 40 miles from any synagogue or Jewish community they kept chickens, sheep and grew their own veg. Taking the children to Cheder in Cambridge at the weekends. They were both soon back to work, Marsha as an Adult Education teacher in the community, local college and prison.
In retirement Marsha found herself taking on the role of cheder teacher, outreach Jewish religion education teacher based at Norwich Hebrew Congregation. Marsha continues to present interactive workshops in schools about Judaism. In this new role she returned to study an MA in Jewish Studies at Kings College London. This has led her to her present research.
Since 2011 she has become curator/ custodian of the disused Jewish Burial ground in King’s Lynn, discovering information about the people, and lives of those Jewish families who chose to live in Kings Lynn from the 18th to 19th century. .
