Emma's 2x great grandfather Abraham Israel gives insight to different aspects of the immigrant Jewish experience in the late 19th century UK.
The talk includes newspaper clippings about him that give an insight into life for Jews in Merthyr Tydfil in that era, which is a bit if almost Jewish world and very interesting in general.
It also includes his naturalisation document, and will cover other places he lived (Birmingham & Bristol), and his will which disparages his son’s non-Jewish lifestyle - and the conflicts that implies about different generations adapting to UK life at a time when many Jews were forced (essentially) to change their surnames.
