JGSGB Eastern European SIG: "Eastern European Jewish Genealogy" by Leigh Dworkin

Sunday 6th April 2025, 14:00-17:00
Online
Pale of Settlement

An introduction into researching your ancestors in various countries in Eastern Europe, covering Poland, Lithuania and Belarus in detail and touching on Latvia, Ukraine and Galicia. This talk was first given in person in late 2024 to the South & West London Regional Group of the JGSGB at the home of Jen and Nick Osorio. As you may have heard, Jen passed away suddenly on 21st March 2025, and this talk is given again via Zoom in her memory, with wishes of long life to Nick and their family.

About Leigh Dworkin
Leigh Dworkin is the Chairman of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain (JGSGB). Genealogically speaking, he considers himself to be 5/8ths Polish, ¼ Lithuanian and 1/8th Belarusian, judging by his great-grandparents’ nationalities, which is far more interesting and exotic than being just an Essex lad. He is a passionate amateur genealogist and has been working on his own family tree for about 40 years. He is currently studying for an MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies at the University of Strathclyde to help him become a professional genealogist. Check out https://www.yourkin.co.uk for more information.

After the talk, there will be an opportunity for Q&A on the talk. We will then take a 15 minute tea break, followed by the ever-popular Eastern European workshop, where you may ask questions about your research, share successes and brick walls, and provide answers to others in your areas of expertise.

If you have problems joining, please email chair@jgsgb.org.uk, preferably in the 15 minutes before the meeting proper starts.
