"The Pilot, The Psychiatrist, The Socialite and Her Lover" tells the story of the presenter's distant cousin Jakob Bychowski who married Magda, eldest sister of Zsa Zsa, Gabor in Budapest in 1937 and thus entered world of mistaken celebrity family trees online mixing his life with that of his namesake cousin, a heroic Polish refugee pilot in the RAF, son of Poland's pre-eminent interwar Psychiatrist. Trying to unravel their two intertwined stories led to searching through archives in Israel, New York and Warsaw to try sort out the truth from the stardust-sprinkled myth, discovering remarkable stories of family separation and reunion and leading to newfound relatives all over the world.
About Daniel Morgan-Thomas
Daniel Morgan-Thomas is has been a member of the Society since 2008, when he joined at the age of 15! Since then, Daniel has served on the Programme Committee, as a library volunteer and helped run some of the Society’s workshops at the Jewish Museum. He served on Council 2016-2024 and is currently the chair of the Programme Committee.
After the talk, there will be an opportunity for Q&A on the talk. We will then take a 15 minute tea break, followed by an Eastern European workshop where you may share your successes and brick walls and ask any questions you might have.
