About Jeremy Gordon-Smith
Jeremy Gordon-Smith is a family historian, photographer and psychotherapist with a keen interest in the world wars. He has researched a large archive of the Bawtree family of Clapham Lodge, Sutton. This features the story of Julius Assenheim, a German Jew who lived with them after fleeing Nazi persecution in 1939.

He has published two books: 'Photographing the Fallen' is the biography of his great great Uncle Ivan Bawtree who was a war graves photographer on the Western Front during the First World War. His second book 'Beauty in the Shadows' chronicles the life of his great great Aunt Viola Bawtree through both world wars, providing a vivid picture of life on the home front.
