Adrienne spoke to JGSGB members at an early stage of her PhD studies and quite a few of our members were interviewed as part of her research. She wanted to explore the wider outcomes from people’s family history research looking at whether the information gatheredchanged the researcher’s view of their own identity and if so, in what way, and to explore what the implications and lessons were for wider society.
The sub-title of Adrienne’s research project was: An examination of the Impact of Researching Jewish Family History. Adrienne examined the actual and potential impact of Jewish genealogy, both on the people doing the research and on current debates on identity and immigration.
Adrienne will discuss her findings with JGSGB members.
About Dr Adrienne Wallman
Adrienne Wallman recently completed her PhD at Lancaster University.
Before this, she has spent much of her working life in the museums,
heritage and community arts sectors and also worked for BBC
Television, helping to make documentaries for teenagers on personal
and social education, political education and development studies.
From a personal perspective, Adrienne started researching her own
family history in 2013.
