How a Unique Document from Portugal Could Assist Holocaust Research
In the 1970s, the Wiener Holocaust Library in London received a hand-written luggage register from the Lisbon, Portugal, branch of Thomas Cook and Sons. The register, which includes entries from the 1940s features many recognisably Jewish and German names.
Why would Jews have deposited luggage in Portugal?
What happened to those travelling?
The talk will describe the project to transcribe the register and reveal the story of this fascinating and unique set of records.

Among other roles, Jeanette leads JGSGB’s German Special Interest Group and is the genealogy representative on the Arolsen Archive Oversight Committee, strategically managing the UK’s copy of the Arolsen Archive.
Jeanette was one of the leaders of JewishGen’s German SIG from 2009-19 and moderates the GerSIG Facebook Group.
Jeanette is also a professional genealogist and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Genealogical Studies from Strathclyde University.
