The threat of the Nazi invasion also led to some fascinating stories of escape, survival and renewal in new countries, especially for the author’s parents and his older siblings. One cousin journeyed East through Russia to Shanghai and another arrived in Palestine as a teenager, eventually becoming an expert in cultivating bananas.

Mike Frankl MBE and his wife Professor Fiona Karet are active members of Beth Shalom Reform Synagogue in Cambridge. Mike has been researching his Czech family history for the last twenty years. He has traced his family back to 4*great-grandmother Rachel born in 1741. In his journey he has found relatives all over the world and celebrated his 75th birthday with a family gathering in Bohemia in the village where his great grandfather was born with 65 newly discovered relatives. His book includes his own parent's story of escape from Prague, along with interesting stories of other relatives and their journeys to the USA, Israel and Australia.
