Our next Sunday meeting in the JGSGB Virtual Meeting Programme is a talk from the Eastern European Special Interest Group by Zoom on a Lithuanian theme.

• Title: Lost in the Pale of Settlement - The Search for Kovasgow
• Speaker: Leigh Dworkin
• Description: Family members had memories of their grandparents (three different siblings) coming from Riga, Latvia, Vilnius, Lithuania and Unknow(n), Russia, but word of mouth evidence can be unreliable. When a marriage authorization document proved that one of the siblings was from Kovasgow, I had hard documentary proof of where one if not all three were from instead. But where was Kovasgow? Which country was it in? I have been trying to find out for 30 years!
This talk presents the latest state of my research, and perhaps finally answers the question of the whereabouts of Kovasgow. However, I could be wrong, and there are still unanswered questions so I would value your feedback.

Leigh Dworkin is the Chairman of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain (JGSGB). Genealogically speaking, he considers himself to be 5/8ths Polish, ¼ Lithuanian and 1/8th Belarusian, judging by his great-grandparents’ nationalities, which is far more interesting and exotic than being just an Essex lad. He is a passionate amateur genealogist and has been working on his own family tree for about 40 years. He is currently studying for an MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies at the University of Strathclyde to help him become a professional genealogist. We will then take a 15 minute tea break, followed by the ever-popular Eastern European workshop, where you may ask questions about your research, share successes and brick walls, and provide answers to others in your areas of expertise.
